PHIL DONATO MP MEMBER FOR ORANGE Recently in Parliament, I have been focused on addressing critical issues impacting our Central West communities. I put forward a motion to highlight the ongoing challenges these communities face following the devastating November 2022 floods. While the $100 million Central West Flood Support Package from the State and Federal Governments is appreciated, the $40 million homes package is likely to be over-subscribed, potentially leaving some residents without the support they desperately need. I've also raised the urgent need for additional funding to repair vital water infrastructure in the Parkes and Cabonne LGAs, which were severely affected by the floods. I remain committed to advocating for the necessary resources to ensure our region's recovery, Additionally, I have been active in supporting legislative change to protect victims of domestic violence. The tragic passing of Molly Ticehurst, a member of our community, has served as a call to action. In Parliament's last sitting, I contributed to the debate in support of further reforms to the NSW Government's domestic violence legislation. As Molly's state representative, I am deeply committed to ensuring that her legacy leads to meaningful change, protecting other women from suffering the same fate. I'm proud to announce that the petition calling for justice for Biddy Porter has now closed with 21,550 signatures. It is only the 18th e-Petition to be successful. This strong show of support from the community highlights the importance of Biddy's case and the broader need for justice reform in NSW. The petition is officially closed, and a petition debate has now been scheduled in the NSW Legislative Assembly on Thursday 17th October 2024, commencing 4pm.Members of the public can attend the public gallery, or they can view the debate live online via the following link https://ponsw.events.corrivium.live/legislativeassembly. will proudly lead this debate and I am certain many of my parliamentary colleagues will be eager to support it. The Minns Labor Government has committed over $241 million to improve road safety Infrastructure across NSW, with $202 million going to 72 projects in regional areas. Key upgrades include safety barriers, wide centre lines, and rumble strips on high-speed country roads, along with pedestrian crossings and traffic signals in urban areas. A notable project includes $7 million for the Mitchell Highway in Molong. Additionally, the government has launched community engagement to discuss future passenger rail services for Orange. A forum will be held on October 31 at the Orange Ex-Services Club, gathering feedback from key stakeholders and the community. The consultation aims to explore transport connections and the potential for a daily return train service between Orange and Sydney, in response to growing local support.
