PHIL DONATO MP MEMBER FOR ORANGE Codayy During recent Parliament sitting weeks, I had the chance to engage with several key issues and celebrate important contributions within our community. I began by delivering a Private Members Statement that honoured the extraordinary efforts of our local heroes during the devastating Eugowra flood on 14 November 2022. The State Emergency Service (SES) Canobolas Cluster Awards ceremony at the Orange Ex-Services' Club allowed us to reflect on the bravery and dedication of first responders and volunteers who saved lives and brought hope during such a challenging time. Their selfless actions are a testament to the resilience of our community, and it was a privilege to recognise their service. I also took part in the debate on the Law and Safety Committee's report on E- cigarette regulation and compliance in New South Wales. As a member of the committee, I stressed the importance of providing more resources for enforcement, especially in regional areas like Orange. This is a pressing health issue, particularly for our youth, and we must do more to ensure compliance with regulations and educate the public on the dangers associated with E-cigarettes. Additionally, I attended the Parliamentary Friends of St John Ambulance event at Parliament of NSW. St John Ambulance, a predominantly volunteer-based organisation with a rich history, provides essential first aid support at public events, augmenting our professional paramedic services. They are a vital part of our community, helping thousands of people across the state every year. If you're interested in getting involved, I encourage you to reach out to St John Ambulance NSW to learn more. I also had the pleasure of joining with country artists and representatives of Arts OutWest in celebrating their efforts to bring art from the bush to the city. It was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the incredible talent from our region and support the work of Arts OutWest in showcasing rural creativity, Furthermore, I hosted the annual visit from Regional Development Australia Central West's TEN4TEN leadership group to the Parliament of NSW. It's always inspiring to meet such enthusiastic and engaging young people-the leaders of our future. Their passion and vision give me great confidence in the future of our region. In Parliament, I again addressed the ongoing challenges in rural healthcare, highlighting disparities in health outcomes compared to metropolitan areas. During a recent tour with the Minister for Health, I advocated for much-needed upgrades to Forbes Hospital's operating theatre. I'm pleased that the Government has committed to working with local stakeholders on this issue. I also continue to support initiatives like Charles Sturt University's School of Rural Medicine, which aims to bolster the rural healthcare workforce. These efforts are part of my commitment to ensuring our country communities receive the quality healthcare they deserve. These engagements highlight the diverse and vibrant community we are a part of, and I am proud to represent and support these important causes in Parliament. All too often, people living with dementia and their carers are provided with nothing but a diagnosis. At this difficult time, it's up to individuals and their families to figure out how they get help moving forward, and from whom. Thankfully, positive change is happening. Last week I spoke to local resident Denise Mills, an advocate with Dementia Australia and a member of Dementia Australia's Business Advisory Group, about a new volunteer project called Dementia Lens Orange. Dementia Lens Orange is an online resource that Denise and Ceri Cameron, who is also a local Dementia Australia advocate, created after their own personal experiences of having a loved one receive a dementia diagnosis. The website can be found at dementialensorange.net and contains key information that I'm sure will be very helpful to many local families. 194a Lords Place, Orange NSW 2800 Authorised by Phil Donato MP, Member for Orange, funded using parliamentary entitlements PHIL DONATO MP MEMBER FOR ORANGE Codayy During recent Parliament sitting weeks , I had the chance to engage with several key issues and celebrate important contributions within our community .
